About Garfield County Regional Airport
Garfield County Regional Airport is a county-owned public-use airport serving Rifle, Garfield County, and the wider western Colorado region. Opened in 1940, it has grown into an important general aviation facility supporting private flights, business aviation, air ambulance operations, flight training and aerial firefighting support.
The airport is located about three nautical miles east of Rifle, just a short drive from Interstate 70. A single 7,000-foot asphalt runway, Runway 08/26, serves arrivals and departures, while fixed-base operators provide passenger lounges, fuel, hangar storage, aircraft parking and maintenance services.
Although RIL does not handle scheduled airline service, it is a practical gateway for travelers flying privately to Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Vail and the outdoor recreation areas of western Colorado. Onward travel is generally made by rental car, private transfer, chauffeur or courtesy vehicle.
With its long runway, instrument approach capability and growing FBO infrastructure, the airport supports convenient, flexible access to the Roaring Fork Valley and Colorado's Western Slope throughout the year.
