Garbaharey Airport (GBM)

Garbaharey Airport serves Garbaharey, also spelled Garbahaareey, the capital of the Gedo region in southern Somalia. The airport lies close to the town centre and provides a limited but important air link for government, humanitarian and regional travel in an area near the Ethiopian and Kenyan borders.

The airfield has a single runway of about 1,050 metres with a gravel surface and sits at roughly 230 metres above sea level. Passenger operations are concentrated in one small terminal, and services are primarily domestic, with most traffic connected to Mogadishu along with charter and aid flights rather than scheduled international commercial routes.

Located about one kilometre southwest of the town centre, the airport is best reached by local taxi or a pre-arranged private vehicle, since there is no formal public bus or rail service. Ground arrangements are usually best confirmed in advance given the region's limited transport options.

Facilities at the airport remain basic, with simple waiting and shelter areas rather than the shops, restaurants and lounges found at larger hubs. Travelers should prepare accordingly and coordinate flights and ground transport before arrival.
