About Galbraith Lake Airport

Galbraith Lake Airport (GBH) is a small, state-owned, public-use airport serving the remote Galbraith Lake area in the North Slope Borough of Alaska. Activated in 1971, it operates as a general aviation airport and supports air taxi, charter and limited scheduled flights, mainly to and from Fairbanks.

The airfield sits about two miles north of Galbraith Lake, west of the Dalton Highway and north of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System's Pump Station 4, within the Brooks Range. It has one gravel runway and no control tower, and the facility is generally unattended, so operations depend on pilot self-service and coordination with operators.

Because the region is sparsely populated, the airport functions as a practical gateway for pipeline workers, scientists, hunters, guides and backcountry travelers. The nearest town, Anaktuvuk Pass, is more than 60 miles away, while Fairbanks lies roughly 360 miles to the south and Deadhorse about 140 miles to the north.

Ground access is available from the Dalton Highway, but services at the airfield are limited, with no restaurants, shops or lounges. Travelers typically rely on air taxi connections to Fairbanks or prearranged ground transportation for onward travel.
