About Gainesville Regional Airport
Gainesville Regional Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Gainesville, Alachua County and the surrounding North Central Florida region. Initial construction on the site was completed in 1941, and the field later operated as Gainesville Municipal Airport before being renamed Gainesville Regional Airport in 1977.
Located about five miles northeast of downtown Gainesville at the corner of State Roads 24 and 222, the airport provides a convenient gateway to the University of Florida and the wider region. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines operate nonstop flights from GNV to the major hubs of Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami, offering onward connections to destinations across the United States and abroad.
The airport uses a single commercial passenger terminal with five boarding gates. A 2021 expansion added roughly 15,200 square feet and two gates, along with improved passenger amenities such as additional seating, food and beverage areas, a lactation room and a quiet room.
Ground transportation includes a parking garage with electric vehicle charging, the RTS city bus, taxis, rideshare services and rental cars, with road access to downtown Gainesville, the university campus and nearby communities.
