About Funter Bay Seaplane Base
Funter Bay Seaplane Base is a small, state-owned public-use seaplane base in Funter Bay, on the northwest side of Admiralty Island in Southeast Alaska. It serves the Hoonah-Angoon Census Area and provides a water landing point for general aviation floatplanes operating in the region.
Located across the water from Juneau, the seaplane base is reachable primarily by floatplane or boat rather than by road. It has a single water landing area aligned northeast-southwest and a small dock, with no passenger terminal building or scheduled commercial airline infrastructure.
The facility dates to the late 1950s and is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems as a general aviation facility. It functions as a remote access point for Funter Bay and nearby coastal communities, where travelers continue by floatplane or vessel.
Because on-site amenities are limited, most passenger services, including lodging, dining, and onward connections, are available in Juneau and other regional communities. The base is best suited to private floatplane operations and charters rather than conventional terminal-based travel.
