About Funafuti International Airport
Funafuti International Airport is the only international airport in Tuvalu and the country's main air gateway. Opened in 1943, the airport is located on Fongafale islet within Funafuti atoll, close to the capital settlement of Vaiaku.
The airport has a single runway and a compact passenger terminal, which opened in its current form in 2017 as part of the Tuvalu Aviation Investment Project. Scheduled international flights connect Funafuti with Fiji through services to Nadi and Suva.
Situated about 1 km from Vaiaku, the airport is within easy reach of the capital by short taxi ride, hotel transfer or on foot. Its central position makes onward travel within Funafuti straightforward.
Although passenger facilities are modest, the terminal provides essential services for arriving and departing travellers, and nearby guesthouses and hotels offer convenient overnight stays close to the airport.
