About Frederick Regional Airport
Frederick Regional Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Frederick, Tillman County and the surrounding area of southwestern Oklahoma. Located about 3 miles (5 km) southeast of the city centre, the airport supports private, business and training flights rather than scheduled commercial airline service.
The airport has a long military history. It opened on 23 September 1942 as Frederick Army Airfield and served as an advanced twin-engine pilot training base during World War II before becoming a civil airport after the war. Today it covers about 1,442 acres and operates three runways, including the 6,099-foot asphalt runway 17/35.
The airport is also home to the World War II Airborne Demonstration Team Foundation, which maintains two flyable C-47 Skytrain aircraft in a historic hangar and uses them for airborne history programs and demonstrations. A passenger terminal and pilots lounge support visiting crews and passengers.
For onward travel, the airport sits near US Highway 183 and State Road 5, with ground transportation available by prior arrangement. Its location makes it convenient for access to Frederick and for regional road connections across southwestern Oklahoma and into nearby north Texas.
