The airport is named after Francisco B. Reyes, a former mayor of Coron who donated the land used for the facility. A major expansion completed in 2008 delivered the current terminal building and a concrete runway, and the airport has since remained a key connection point for flights from Manila, Cebu, Clark, El Nido and Puerto Princesa.
