Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE)

Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport is a general aviation airport owned and operated by the City of Fort Lauderdale. Located in the Uptown Business District about five miles north of downtown Fort Lauderdale, it ranks among the busiest general aviation airports in the United States and serves private, corporate, charter, air ambulance and flight training operations.

The airport was built in 1941 as West Prospect Field, an auxiliary landing field used to train naval aviators during World War II. In 1947 the federal government transferred the property to the City of Fort Lauderdale for public airport use, and it has since developed into a major executive aviation hub for South Florida.

FXE has two asphalt runways, including a 6,002-foot primary runway with an instrument landing system and a 4,000-foot secondary runway. Four fixed-base operators provide fueling, maintenance, hangars, executive lounges and other aviation services, supported by a 24-hour FAA air traffic control tower and an on-site U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility for international arrivals.

The airport sits near Interstate 95, Interstate 595 and a Tri-Rail station, with Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale's beaches a short drive away. Private transfers, chauffeur services, rental cars and group transportation make it convenient for business and leisure travelers continuing to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach and nearby coastal destinations.
