About Foothills Regional Airport

Foothills Regional Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Morganton, Lenoir, Hickory and the surrounding Blue Ridge foothills of western North Carolina. The airport was activated in December 1945 and is owned by the Foothills Regional Airport Authority, a joint venture of Burke County, Caldwell County, the City of Morganton and the City of Lenoir.

Located on Highway 18 about eight miles north of downtown Morganton and nine miles south of Lenoir, the airport sits at an elevation of roughly 1,270 feet. Its single paved runway, 3/21, measures 5,500 by 75 feet and is served by GPS and localizer instrument approaches, making it suitable for a range of general aviation, corporate and charter aircraft.

Because MRN does not offer scheduled airline service, arrivals are handled through a full-service FBO with a pilot lounge, flight planning stations and a conference room. Ground transportation is arranged by rental car, taxi, private transfer or chauffeur, and the airport provides quick driving access to Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk.

With competitive fuel prices, aircraft maintenance, rentals, flight training and hangar space, the airport functions as a convenient general aviation gateway for both business and leisure travelers exploring western North Carolina.
