About Flat Airport

Flat Airport is a small, state-owned public-use airport serving Flat, a remote settlement in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of interior Alaska. Opened in 1947, the airfield has long provided access to the historic Iditarod mining district, one of Alaska's best-known gold-mining regions.

The airport operates a single turf-and-gravel runway designated 8/26, measuring about 4,045 by 90 feet. It has no passenger terminal, control tower, or scheduled commercial airline service, so traffic consists mostly of general aviation, charter, and supply flights supporting mining, recreation, and backcountry access.

Flat Airport is located near the small community of Flat, approximately 280 air miles northwest of Anchorage and about 90 air miles southwest of McGrath. The area is reached primarily by air, with charter flights linking the airstrip to regional hubs and other remote communities in western Alaska.

Because facilities are minimal and the runway is unmaintained, visitors and pilots should confirm current field and weather conditions and arrange flights and ground support well in advance.
