About Falls International Airport

Falls International Airport is the main commercial airport serving International Falls and the Koochiching County region of northern Minnesota. Located on the U.S.-Canada border, it operates as a designated U.S. Port of Entry and provides daily passenger service to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport through Delta Connection and SkyWest Airlines.

The City of International Falls established the airport after World War II on the site of an earlier grass airstrip. Two paved runways were completed in 1946, a terminal was added in 1948, and commercial air service began in 1953. The airport became jointly owned by the city and county in 1962, and a new terminal dedicated by then-Vice President Walter Mondale opened in 1979. The main runway was extended to 7,400 feet in 2006, and in 2011 the airport was redesignated Einarson Field in honour of the family behind the original airstrip.

The airport's single terminal is open 24 hours a day and is designed for a simple passenger experience, with free parking, free Wi-Fi, convenient check-in, and easy baggage claim. General aviation services are supported by the on-site fixed-base operator.

Falls International Airport sits about 4 km from downtown International Falls, making it a short drive to the city centre and nearby Rainy Lake. Rental cars and taxis are available at the airport, and the surrounding area offers access to Voyageurs National Park and the Ontario border region.
