Fagurhólsmýri Airport (FAG)

Fagurhólsmýri Airport is a small local airfield serving the settlement of Fagurhólsmýri and the surrounding Öræfi district in southeastern Iceland. It has no regular scheduled passenger service and is used mainly for general aviation and private flights, linking a sparsely populated area between the Vatnajökull ice cap and the south coast.

The airfield lies about 0.8 km south of Fagurhólsmýri and has a single gravel runway, with basic aviation facilities rather than a large terminal complex. Flights to the area began in the early 20th century and helped reduce the isolation of Öræfi, which was historically difficult to reach.

Fagurhólsmýri sits along Route 1, the Ring Road, roughly 330 km by road from Reykjavík and about 109 km west of Höfn. Most travelers continue by road to nearby destinations such as Skaftafell, Vatnajökull National Park, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Ingólfshöfði.

Although passenger facilities at the airfield are limited, it remains a useful access point for private and chartered flights visiting the Öræfi region. Visitors can combine air travel with rental cars, taxis or pre-arranged transfers for onward journeys along Iceland's south coast.
