Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ)

Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport is the main international airport serving Barranquilla, capital of Colombia's Atlántico department. Named after Ernesto Cortissoz, a pioneer of Colombian commercial aviation and co-founder of SCADTA, it stands on land in the neighbouring municipality of Soledad and links the city with domestic and international routes.

Located approximately 7 km south of central Barranquilla, the airport functions as an important gateway to Colombia's Caribbean coast and serves as a focus city for Avianca. Its single integrated passenger terminal handles domestic and international operations, with a 3,000-metre runway able to receive wide-body aircraft.

Aviation activity at the Soledad site dates back to the 1930s, while the current terminal opened in 1979 and was later renovated and expanded. The building is compact and easy to navigate, with check-in on the ground level and departures, security and gates on the upper level.

Onward travel is available by official airport taxis, public buses, private transfers, chauffeur services and car rental, making it relatively straightforward to continue into Barranquilla or toward Santa Marta and Cartagena. Passenger facilities include dining, shopping, lounges, Wi-Fi and other services for arriving and departing travelers.
