The airport is shared with the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and primarily supports general aviation, air taxi, charter and Coast Guard operations rather than scheduled airline service.
Located about 3 nautical miles southeast of central Elizabeth City, the airport opened in 1972 and is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard, with the Pasquotank County Airport Authority operating the civilian terminal, FBO and associated taxiways. It provides convenient access to the Albemarle Sound area, the Outer Banks and the Hampton Roads region of Virginia.
