About El Tajín National Airport
El Tajín National Airport is the main airport serving Poza Rica and the surrounding northern Veracruz region, including nearby Tuxpan. It is named after the El Tajín archaeological site, an important pre-Columbian site in the area.
The airport is located in the municipality of Tihuatlán, about 12 km north of Poza Rica city centre, and became part of the ASA airport network in 1979. It operates a single asphalt runway of 1,800 metres and a compact one-story passenger terminal with three departure gates.
It mainly handles domestic flights and also supports executive and general aviation activity. Regional airline Aerus has offered intermittent service connecting Poza Rica with destinations such as Veracruz, Tampico, Reynosa, Villahermosa and Mexico City–AIFA since late 2023.
Ground access to Poza Rica and nearby towns is by road, with taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars available at the terminal. The airport's small size keeps arrivals, baggage claim and onward travel straightforward for passengers.
