About Eastern WV Regional Airport/Shepherd Field
Eastern WV Regional Airport/Shepherd Field is a public-use general aviation airport serving Martinsburg and West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle. The airfield dates to 1923, when the first official landing took place on what became Shepherd Field, and it is considered the oldest continuously operating airfield in West Virginia.
Located about 5 miles (7 km) south of downtown Martinsburg in Berkeley County, the airport serves fast-growing communities in West Virginia and nearby Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. It sits within roughly a 90-minute drive of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, making it a practical general aviation alternative outside the busy D.C. airspace.
The airport is governed by the Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport Authority and is home to the West Virginia Air National Guard's 167th Airlift Wing. Its main runway is 8,815 feet long, and MRB Aviation provides a full-service FBO, in-house charter flights, fuel, and aircraft services.
A modern terminal building completed in 2005 houses the airport authority offices, a passenger lobby, and the Crosswinds Cafe restaurant on the second floor. With its location near Interstate 81, the airport offers convenient road connections to Martinsburg and surrounding destinations.
