About Downtown Skyport Heliport
Downtown Skyport, formerly the Downtown Manhattan Heliport, is a public-use heliport located on Pier 6 of the East River in Lower Manhattan. Opened in 1960, the facility has long served helicopter flights connecting Manhattan with major airports and destinations across the New York region.
The skyport covers about 2 acres and features a single 62-foot-square concrete helipad that can accommodate aircraft up to 50,000 pounds, along with pier and barge space for helicopter parking. A two-story terminal provides passenger waiting areas and a lounge, and the site has been operated as a multi-modal hub by Downtown Skyport, a joint venture of Skyports Infrastructure and Groupe ADP, since 2025.
Situated just south of Wall Street and adjacent to the Financial District, the heliport is within walking distance of Lower Manhattan landmarks, the South Street Seaport, and the Staten Island Ferry. Ground access is available by taxi, ride-hailing services, and nearby public transportation, while helicopter links provide onward connections to JFK, Newark, LaGuardia, and Teterboro airports.
Planned upgrades include electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) charging infrastructure and maritime freight berthing, positioning the skyport as a hub for quieter, more sustainable urban air mobility. For travelers, it offers a compact and convenient gateway for helicopter tours, private charters, and regional transfers.
