The airport was renovated and reopened for passenger flights in September 2022 to support the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, when 13 airlines operated temporary services until the end of December 2022. Today the airport primarily handles general, executive and business aviation, along with cargo and selected temporary operations.
Located about 5 km from central Doha, the airport is around 15 minutes from the city centre and within easy reach of areas such as the Corniche, Souq Waqif and The Pearl-Qatar. Road access, taxis and private transfers connect it with the city and surrounding areas.
