About Dobbins Air Reserve Base
Dobbins Air Reserve Base is a United States Air Force reserve installation in Marietta, Georgia, about 16 miles northwest of Atlanta. Hosted by the 94th Airlift Wing, the base supports military airlift, government aircraft, and Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps units in the Atlanta area.
The airfield opened in 1944 as Marietta Army Airfield and was later renamed in honor of Captain Charles M. Dobbins, a Marietta-born World War II pilot. It became Dobbins Air Reserve Base in 1992 and continues to serve as a key military aviation hub for northern Georgia.
Located just south of Marietta and close to Interstate 75, the airfield has a main runway of about 10,000 feet and operates as a controlled military installation. It is not served by commercial airlines; scheduled passenger flights in the region are handled at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Because access and landings require prior permission, the base serves military and approved civil aviation rather than the general public. Travelers continuing to Marietta, Atlanta, or other destinations in Cobb County can arrange private transfers, chauffeur services, rental cars, or group transportation, with hotels, restaurants, and other amenities available nearby.
