About Detroit Lakes Airport
Detroit Lakes Airport is a city-owned public-use general aviation airport serving Detroit Lakes and Becker County in west-central Minnesota. Opened in December 1944, the facility supports private, charter and recreational flying in the region's lake country. It is also known as Detroit Lakes Airport-Wething Field.
Located about 2 miles (3 km) west of the central business district, the airport features an asphalt runway and a turf runway alongside a general aviation terminal and fixed-base operator. The terminal provides pilot and passenger facilities for private flights rather than scheduled airline operations.
The airport is reached by road via U.S. Highway 10, and its short distance from downtown Detroit Lakes makes transfers to hotels, lakeside resorts and nearby towns such as Perham and Park Rapids relatively quick. Taxis, private transfers, rental cars and shuttle services serve the area.
With fuel, hangars, parking and pilot amenities on site, the airport functions as a convenient gateway for visitors travelling to Detroit Lakes and the surrounding Minnesota lakes region.
