Deadhorse Airport (SCC)

Deadhorse Airport is the main airport serving Deadhorse, Prudhoe Bay and Alaska's North Slope oil fields. Opened in 1970, it provides a vital air link for workers, suppliers and charter flights traveling to one of the most remote industrial regions in the United States.

The airport sits in Deadhorse at the northern end of the Dalton Highway, about five miles south of Prudhoe Bay and roughly 380 air miles north of Fairbanks. Scheduled flights connect Deadhorse with Anchorage and Fairbanks, while charter and cargo operations support oil field activity across the North Slope.

Deadhorse Airport has a single paved runway, designated 06/24, and compact passenger facilities concentrated in privately operated terminal buildings. Alaska Airlines handles the main scheduled passenger service, with security screening in place before departures.

Because public transport is limited, travelers arriving at Deadhorse Airport usually continue by pre-arranged shuttle, taxi, company vehicle or private transfer to nearby lodges, camps and work sites. Basic services such as lodging, fuel and meals can be found in Deadhorse, with road access restricted beyond the oil field security checkpoints.
