About Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport

Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport is a publicly owned general aviation airfield operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department in the Big Cypress area of South Florida. Built in the late 1960s as the Everglades Jetport, construction was halted in 1970 after environmental opposition, leaving a single 10,499-foot asphalt runway that remains in use for pilot training and transition flights.

Located about 36 miles west of downtown Miami along the Tamiami Trail, near Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve, the airport has no commercial passenger terminal or scheduled airline service. Its primary role is to support training operations for commercial, military and private pilots.

The airport is reached by road via US 41 (Tamiami Trail), and public use is permitted only by prior arrangement with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department. There is no scheduled ground transportation on site, so travelers generally need a private vehicle or pre-arranged transfer to continue to Miami, Naples or other destinations.

Facilities are limited to aviation operations, with no fuel, restaurants, shops or lounges. Travelers should plan fuel, arrivals and onward transport in advance, as TNT functions as a specialized flight-training gateway rather than a conventional passenger airport.
