The airport has been owned and operated by the Metropolitan Airports Commission since 1948 and covers approximately 436 acres. It operates three runways, including the only turf runway in the commission's reliever airport system, and is served by an FAA-operated air traffic control tower.
Crystal Airport supports private, business, and charter flying, flight training, aircraft maintenance and sales, and medical flight operations. Facilities include a fixed-base operator, aviation fuel, hangar and tie-down storage, and self-serve fueling.
Ground access is primarily by private vehicle, taxi, rideshare, chauffeur, or rental car, with easy road connections to Minneapolis, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, and the wider Twin Cities region.
