Crookston Municipal Airport – Kirkwood Field (CKN)

Crookston Municipal Airport – Kirkwood Field is a public general aviation airport located about four miles north of Crookston, Minnesota, in the Red River Valley. Opened in April 1947 and owned by the City of Crookston, the airport supports private, business and agricultural flying in Polk County and northwestern Minnesota.

The airfield has an asphalt runway, 13/31, measuring 4,300 by 75 feet, plus a 2,977-foot turf runway, 17/35, that is not plowed in winter. There is no control tower, and pilots use the common traffic advisory frequency and AWOS-3 weather reporting for arrivals and departures.

Ground access is straightforward by road, with Crookston roughly four miles to the south and Grand Forks, North Dakota, about 25 miles to the west. Fuel, hangars, tiedowns, a pilot lounge and a courtesy car are available on site.

As a small, publicly owned field, the airport serves as a practical entry point for general aviation traffic visiting Crookston, the University of Minnesota Crookston area, and nearby communities in the Red River Valley.
