Crane Island Airstrip (CKR)

Crane Island Airstrip (CKR) is a small private airstrip on Crane Island, one of the San Juan Islands in San Juan County, Washington. The island lies just off the southwestern shore of Orcas Island, between Orcas Island and the northwest corner of Shaw Island, and the airstrip serves mainly island residents and authorized private aircraft.

The airstrip was created as part of the island's residential development, which began in 1960. It consists of a single gravel and grass runway of about 1,500 feet (460 metres), with basic tie-down areas but no passenger terminal, commercial airline service or public facilities.

Crane Island is not served directly by public ferry, although Washington State Ferries pass south of the island through Wasp Passage. Travelers generally reach the area through the nearby gateways of Orcas Island or Friday Harbor on San Juan Island and complete the final leg by private boat or arranged pick-up.

Because the airstrip is private and has limited services, visits require advance coordination with island residents or the community. The surrounding San Juan Islands offer quiet coastal and island destinations, and the airstrip functions as a private access point rather than a public airport.
