About Colorado Creek Airport
Colorado Creek Airport is a small, privately owned airstrip located near the settlement of Colorado Creek in interior Alaska's Yukon–Koyukuk Census Area. The airport has been in use since it was activated in 1951 and serves general aviation traffic in a remote, sparsely populated part of western Alaska.
The airport has a single gravel runway, 14/32, measuring about 3,250 by 100 feet (roughly 991 by 30 meters), at an estimated elevation of 860 feet. It is unattended, has no control tower and offers no published instrument procedures, fuel or aircraft services, so pilots must obtain permission before landing and plan to be self-sufficient.
Located less than 1 mile south of Colorado Creek, the airstrip is not connected to a road network; access is primarily by private aircraft or chartered flights. The nearest communities with more developed services include McGrath, about 38 nautical miles to the south, and Nikolai, Ruby and Galena farther away.
For travelers and pilots, Colorado Creek Airport provides basic backcountry access to the surrounding rivers, mining areas and wilderness rather than conventional passenger facilities. Arrivals and departures depend heavily on weather, seasonal conditions and advance coordination.
