About College Park Airport

College Park Airport is a public general aviation airport serving College Park, the University of Maryland area, and the greater Washington, D.C. region. Opened in 1909 as a training field for the U.S. Army Signal Corps, it is recognized as the world's oldest continuously operating airport.

Operated by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the airport primarily supports general aviation, flight training, and private aircraft. It has a single asphalt runway, Runway 15/33, and a small operations building, with no scheduled commercial airline service.

Located about 10 miles (16 km) northeast of downtown Washington, D.C., the airport is roughly a 10-minute walk from the College Park-University of Maryland Metro station on the Green Line, which reaches central Washington in about 25 minutes. Road links and local bus routes also serve the surrounding area.

As one of the three Maryland airports inside the Washington, D.C. Flight Restricted Zone, College Park follows special aviation security procedures. Visitors can explore the College Park Aviation Museum on the airport grounds, which documents the airfield's role in early military aviation and airmail history.
