Coldfoot Airport is a small state-owned, public-use airport serving Coldfoot, a remote community on Alaska's Dalton Highway between Fairbanks and the Brooks Range. The airport opened in 1971 and is used mainly for air taxi, charter and general aviation traffic linking the area with Fairbanks and other northern Alaska locations. The airport sits immediately west of the Dalton Highway at Coldfoot and has a single gravel runway, 02/20, measuring about 4,011 feet (1,223 metres). There is no passenger terminal building, control tower or on-site staff, so operations are simple and geared toward small aircraft rather than scheduled airline traffic. The Dalton Highway provides the only road connection through the area, and the airport offers an alternative to long road journeys for visitors heading to Wiseman, the Arctic Circle, the Brooks Range or Gates of the Arctic National Park. Because airport facilities are minimal, most travellers arrange flights, transfers and supplies in advance. Coldfoot itself has a truck stop with food and lodging, and scheduled air taxi operators connect the community with Fairbanks.
