Cold Bay Airport is a state-owned public airport serving the community of Cold Bay at the western end of the Alaska Peninsula. It lies within the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, about 634 miles southwest of Anchorage and 180 miles northeast of Unalaska. The airport occupies 2,213 acres and has two asphalt runways, including a main runway of 10,179 feet that is the fifth-longest in Alaska.
The airfield was developed during World War II and remains an important aviation safety asset in the North Pacific. Its long main runway serves as an alternate emergency landing area for trans-Pacific aircraft on Great Circle routes and is equipped with navigation aids supporting instrument approaches.
