About Clinton-Sherman Airport

Clinton-Sherman Airport is a public-use general aviation airport and FAA-licensed spaceport in Burns Flat, Washita County, western Oklahoma. It occupies a former military airfield that opened in 1943 as Clinton Naval Air Station and later served as Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base, a Strategic Air Command facility, before being redeveloped as an aviation and aerospace complex.

Located about 15 miles southwest of Clinton and roughly 100 miles west of Oklahoma City, the airport is operated by the Oklahoma Space Industry Development Authority as the Oklahoma Air & Space Port. Its main runway is 13,503 feet long, making it one of the longest runways available for civilian and military use in the United States.

The airport sits about 7 miles south of Interstate 40 and historic Route 66, with road access to Burns Flat, Clinton and nearby western Oklahoma towns. Because it is a general aviation and industrial facility rather than a scheduled airline airport, ground transportation is best arranged in advance.

On-site support includes a fixed-base operator with Jet-A fuel, hangar space, major aircraft repairs and a pilot lounge, together with a staffed air traffic control tower and an aircraft rescue and firefighting unit. These facilities support aerospace testing, general aviation operations and industrial activity in the region.
