About Chitral Airport

Chitral Airport is a small domestic airport serving the city of Chitral and the surrounding valleys in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in northern Pakistan. It is operated by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and primarily links the region with Islamabad through Pakistan International Airlines flights. Located about 3.7 km north of the city centre, the airport functions as an important gateway for travellers heading into the Hindu Kush and nearby mountain destinations.

The airport has a single passenger terminal and one asphalt runway, suitable for smaller aircraft such as ATR turboprops used on domestic routes. Because the surrounding terrain is mountainous and winter weather can close road passes, the airport is especially important as a lifeline for the remote Chitral valley during periods when land travel becomes difficult.

From Chitral Airport, visitors can continue to Chitral city by taxi or shared transport, and onward to destinations such as the Kalash Valleys, Chitral Gol National Park, Garam Chashma and Shandur Pass. Local car rental is generally available with a driver, and private transfers can be arranged in advance.

The terminal offers basic passenger amenities including check-in counters, a waiting area, a small café, shops, free Wi-Fi, charging points and a prayer room. While facilities are modest compared with larger airports, the airport provides a compact and convenient arrival point for travellers exploring northern Pakistan.
