About Chisasibi Airport
Chisasibi Airport is the regional airport serving Chisasibi, the largest Cree community in the James Bay region of northern Quebec. Operated by the Cree Nation of Chisasibi, it provides a vital year-round air link for residents, visiting workers and travellers heading to this remote part of the province.
The airport has a single gravel runway of about 1,158 metres and one passenger terminal, opened in its current form in January 2006. In 2016 the airport was named after Robert Kanatewat, a former chief and signatory of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. Air Creebec is the main carrier, with scheduled flights connecting Chisasibi to Val-d'Or and Chibougamau and onward to Montreal.
Located roughly three kilometres northwest of the community on the south bank of the La Grande River, the airport is only a short drive from the centre of Chisasibi. Travel between the airport and town is typically by private vehicle, taxi or pre-arranged transfer.
Passenger facilities are modest but functional, with a waiting area and free on-site parking. As a gateway to the James Bay coast, the airport supports essential travel for local services, work camps and visitors exploring this northern Cree territory.
