About Chignik Airport
Chignik Airport is a small, state-owned public-use airport serving Chignik, a remote community on the Pacific side of the Alaska Peninsula. Activated in 1968 and operated by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, the airport supports scheduled and charter air service for residents, commercial fishing operations and visitors travelling to the area.
Located about two miles northeast of the village of Chignik, the airport provides an essential link for a community that is not connected to Alaska's road system. It has a single gravel runway designated 2/20, measuring 2,600 by 60 feet, and serves regional air carriers and air taxis connecting to larger hubs in southwest Alaska.
The airport is a simple, unattended facility with no control tower. Passengers arriving at Chignik typically continue by pre-arranged vehicle, lodge transport or air taxi to the village, harbor, and nearby Chignik Lake and Chignik Lagoon settlements.
Because the airport is small and remote, passenger facilities are limited, but it remains a vital year-round gateway for the Chignik Bay area.
