About Chichen Itza International Airport

Chichen Itza International Airport is an international airport in the municipality of Kaua, Yucatán, Mexico, serving the ancient Maya city of Chichén Itzá and the surrounding region. Opened in 2000, it replaced an older airstrip closer to the archaeological site and was built to improve access to one of Mexico's most visited cultural destinations.

The airport sits about 12 kilometres, roughly a 10-minute drive, from the Chichén Itzá archaeological zone, approximately 30 kilometres from Valladolid, and around 130 kilometres from Mérida. It operates with a single passenger terminal, a 2,800-metre concrete runway, and three aircraft parking positions, supporting domestic and international operations as well as charter, private, and cargo traffic.

Although scheduled commercial traffic has been limited in recent years, the airport primarily serves private and charter flights, with the Yucatán state government and its operator working to attract more commercial routes. Its location makes it a convenient entry point for visitors heading to Chichén Itzá, Valladolid, Izamal, and other Yucatán destinations.

Ground access is by road, with pre-arranged transfers, taxis, chauffeur services, and rental cars available for continuing to nearby towns, the archaeological site, Mérida, and the Riviera Maya. The terminal offers basic passenger amenities, including waiting areas, restrooms, and parking.
