About Chefornak Airport

Chefornak Airport is a state-owned public-use airport serving Chefornak, a small community in the Bethel Census Area of western Alaska. Opened in June 1974, it operates as a remote bush airport supporting scheduled air taxi service and charter flights across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

Located about 1 mile south of the village, the airport has a single gravel runway and limited facilities, including a basic warming shelter. It has no control tower and is unattended; pilots use a common traffic advisory frequency, and runway lighting is pilot-activated.

Because Chefornak is not connected to Alaska's road system, the airport is the primary year-round link to the regional hub of Bethel, about 94 miles to the northeast, and to neighboring villages such as Kipnuk and Toksook Bay.

Ground movement within the village is typically by ATV, boat or snowmobile depending on the season, with passengers meeting arriving flights directly at the airstrip.
