About Chatham Seaplane Base
Chatham Seaplane Base is a small remote seaplane facility serving the community of Chatham within the City and Borough of Sitka in Southeast Alaska. It provides an essential waterborne link for a community that has no road connection, supporting travel, supplies, and access to the wider region.
The base operates from a sheltered water area with a designated water runway and is used by scheduled and charter seaplane services. Scheduled passenger service is supported through the U.S. Essential Air Service program, connecting Chatham with regional hubs such as Juneau.
Located roughly 50 kilometres northeast of Sitka and separated by water and forested coastline, Chatham Seaplane Base has no road access. Travelers continue their journey by seaplane or boat, either to Sitka or onward through Southeast Alaska's network of coastal communities.
Because the facility is small and remote, passenger amenities are limited, and visitors should arrange connections and supplies in advance. Despite its simplicity, the base remains a vital local gateway in this part of Alaska.
