About Chandler Field
Chandler Field is a city-owned public-use airport serving Alexandria and west-central Minnesota's Douglas County lakes region. The airfield was activated in March 1941 and was named Chandler Field in 1978, and it continues to function primarily as a general aviation facility.
Located about two nautical miles southwest of downtown Alexandria, the airport supports private aircraft, corporate and business flights, air ambulance, freight, flight training and charter operations rather than scheduled commercial airline service. It has two asphalt runways, with the main runway measuring roughly 5,099 feet and able to accommodate many corporate jets and turboprops.
Ground access to Alexandria is short by road, with taxis, pre-arranged shuttles, rental cars and private transfers connecting the airport to hotels, lake resorts and industrial areas. Travelers needing scheduled airline connections generally use St. Cloud Regional Airport or Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
