Chagual Airport (CGL)

Chagual Airport is a small private aerodrome serving the town of Chagual in the Pataz district of Peru's La Libertad region. It is owned by Compañía Minera Poderosa and mainly supports private, charter and mining-related flights in the upper Marañón River valley.

The airport sits in a deep canyon beside the Marañón River at an elevation of about 1,209 metres. Its single asphalt runway is roughly 1,200 metres long and includes a displaced threshold at the northwestern end. Operations are visual flight rules only, and there are no scheduled airline counters, so most passengers travel on pre-arranged flights and road connections.

Chagual Airport is located about 5 km north-northwest of the town of Chagual and serves the wider Pataz area. The regional capital, Trujillo, lies roughly 300 km to the northwest by road, reached along mountain routes that can be slow and weather-dependent.

Because public transport is limited, travelers usually continue from the airport by pre-arranged private transfer, hired vehicle or group transport to Chagual, Pataz and other Andean communities. The airport's remote setting makes advance planning important for both flights and ground transportation.
