Captain FAP Víctor Montes Arias International Airport is the main air gateway to Talara and the northern coast of Peru's Piura Region. Located just outside the city, it is the only international airport in the Grau region and primarily connects Talara with domestic flights from Lima. The airport traces its origins to a World War II United States airbase established at El Pato in 1942. It was later transferred to the Peruvian Air Force and named after Captain Víctor Montes Arias, and it has operated as a civil aviation facility since 1956. Today it is managed by Aeropuertos del Perú under a concession granted in 2006. Its single passenger terminal and 2,460-metre runway have been renovated to handle modern aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 family. The airport's compact layout keeps check-in, security and boarding within one building, making it an efficient entry point for travelers heading to beach destinations like Máncora, Los Órganos, Punta Sal and Cabo Blanco. Talara city centre is roughly 1–2 km from the airport, reachable by taxi or mototaxi in about 10–15 minutes.
