Located in the Huanchaco district northwest of central Trujillo, Capitán FAP Carlos Martínez de Pinillos International Airport is the main airport serving the city and the surrounding La Libertad region. Opened in 1967 and operated by Aeropuertos del Perú, it is a gateway to the colonial centre of Trujillo, the beach town of Huanchaco and the Chan Chan archaeological site.
