About Cape Cod Coast Guard Air Station

Cape Cod Coast Guard Air Station is a U.S. Coast Guard aviation facility at Joint Base Cape Cod, near Falmouth on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It is the only Coast Guard aviation facility in the northeast and supports search and rescue, law enforcement, homeland security, marine fisheries, aids to navigation, and logistics missions across the region.

Established on August 29, 1970, the air station consolidated the former Coast Guard Air Station at Salem, Massachusetts, and the Coast Guard Air Detachment at Quonset Point, Rhode Island. Today it operates MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters and HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft, maintaining readiness to launch on short notice around the clock for offshore responses from the Canadian border to Long Island, New York.

The facility uses two runways at Joint Base Cape Cod, which spans parts of Bourne, Mashpee, Falmouth, and Sandwich. It is an operational military air station with a control tower and restricted access rather than a public passenger terminal, so scheduled commercial flights serving Cape Cod use nearby airports such as Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis and Martha's Vineyard Airport.

The air station sits a few miles north of central Falmouth and is reached by road through the Upper Cape. Falmouth, Mashpee, Sandwich, and Bourne are close by, and the Cape Cod Canal crossings provide onward access toward Boston and the rest of southeastern Massachusetts.
