About Boston Harbor Seaplane Base
Boston Harbor Seaplane Base is a small waterfront aviation facility on Boston Harbor, immediately southeast of downtown Boston. It provides a compact seaplane gateway between the city and coastal New England destinations such as Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and Provincetown, and it has been used for seasonal seaplane connections toward New York City.
Unlike a conventional airport, the base operates on water rather than paved runways. Its primary water landing area is designated 14W/32W and is about 2,500 feet long, with no control tower. The facility is registered by Cape Air under FAA identifier MA87 and carries the IATA code BNH.
The base sits about one mile southeast of central Boston, with passenger boarding near Long Wharf on the downtown waterfront, close to Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market and the New England Aquarium. Boston Logan International Airport lies roughly one nautical mile to the northeast.
Because of its central waterfront location, the seaplane base is quick to reach by taxi, rideshare, public transit and water transport from across the city. It offers a direct way to connect between Boston and the Cape Cod and Islands region without travelling through a large terminal.
Terminal Overview
Terminals
Boston Harbor Seaplane Base does not have a conventional terminal building. Seaplane operations use a waterfront boarding dock on Long Wharf, with passengers embarking directly from the dock before aircraft taxi to the harbor waterway for takeoff.
