The airport opened in 1974 and is open to the public, supporting private, business, recreational and agricultural flying rather than scheduled airline service.
Located about one mile northeast of downtown Canton, the airport has a single asphalt runway, Runway 18/36, measuring 3,600 feet by 60 feet. A general aviation building provides pilot amenities, fuel and parking, while the airport operates without a control tower and under visual flight rules.
Canton sits roughly 20 miles south of Sioux Falls along US Highway 18 and about 10 miles east of Interstate 29.
