About Cancún International Airport
Cancún International Airport is the main gateway to the Mexican Caribbean and one of Mexico's most important airports for international travel. Opened in 1974 and operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), it connects the Yucatán Peninsula with domestic and international destinations across the Americas and Europe.
The airport operates through four terminals: Terminal 1, used mainly for private and charter flights, and Terminals 2, 3 and 4, which handle domestic and international commercial services. Terminal 4, the newest, opened in 2017 as part of the airport's continued expansion to meet growing demand.
Located approximately 16 km from downtown Cancún and about 20 km from the Hotel Zone, the airport provides road access to hotels, resorts and nearby destinations such as Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres. Buses, taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars are available for onward travel.
