About Calexico International Airport
Calexico International Airport is a city-owned public-use airport serving Calexico, Imperial County, and the surrounding border region. It operates primarily as a general aviation facility rather than a scheduled commercial airport, and is designated an International Airport of Entry by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The airport was activated in October 1947 and is located about one mile west of downtown Calexico. Its single asphalt runway, 8/26, is approximately 4,683 feet long and is supported by a parallel taxiway and aircraft parking areas.
A small terminal and administration building houses a public lobby, flight planning space, a pilot lounge, public restrooms and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection office. Aviation fuel, tie-downs and hangar storage are available for aircraft operators.
Because the airport sits close to the California–Mexico border, it is a practical arrival point for private and general aviation travelers crossing between the Imperial Valley and Mexicali, Baja California. Ground transportation is mainly by private vehicle, taxi or rideshare along local roads.
