Cadete FAP Guillermo del Castillo Paredes Airport is the main air gateway to Tarapoto and the San Martín region in Peru's upper Amazon. The airport has served the city since the mid-1950s and is named in honour of a Peruvian Air Force cadet who died in service in 1956.
Located about 3 km south of central Tarapoto, the airport operates domestic flights connecting the region with Lima and other Peruvian cities. It has been managed under concession by Aeropuertos del Perú since 2006, and its passenger terminal was fully renovated in 2010.
The single passenger terminal is easy to navigate, with check-in, security, baggage claim and public arrivals in one compact building. From the airport, travellers can continue to central Tarapoto and nearby destinations such as Lamas and Sauce by taxi, mototaxi or pre-arranged transfer.
