About Brookhaven Calabro Airport
Brookhaven Calabro Airport is a public general aviation airport in Shirley, Suffolk County, on Long Island. Built during World War II to support U.S. Army Air Corps operations and activated in November 1943, the field was known as Mastic Flight Strip before being transferred to New York State. The Town of Brookhaven acquired the airport in 1961.
Located about one mile north of central Shirley, the airport serves private pilots, charter operations and flight training for Suffolk County and the surrounding East End. It has two runways, with Runway 6-24 equipped with an instrument landing system, and is supported by fixed-base operators offering fueling, maintenance, hangars, tie-downs and flight instruction.
The terminal building houses Wings Café, and free public parking is available during terminal hours. The airfield remains accessible for aviation operations around the clock, while the terminal is generally open to the public daily from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The airport is convenient to Mastic–Shirley station on the Long Island Rail Road's Montauk Branch and is reached by car from local roads, making it a practical aviation gateway for central and eastern Long Island.
