About Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport
Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport is a public-use regional airport serving Brainerd and the Brainerd Lakes area of central Minnesota. The airport has provided commercial air service to the region since 1948, when the first scheduled flight arrived in Brainerd.
Located northeast of Brainerd on a site of about 1,475 acres, the airport offers daily Delta Connection service operated by SkyWest to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, connecting travelers to domestic and international destinations. The current name evolved from earlier designations, including Walter Wieland Field, before becoming Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport.
The passenger terminal was remodeled and expanded in 2012, with a jet bridge added to improve the passenger experience. General aviation also plays a major role at the airport, supported by hangars, a fixed-base operator and aviation-related businesses.
The airport is about 8 km, or roughly 5 miles, northeast of downtown Brainerd. Free parking, a full-service restaurant, free Wi-Fi, rental cars, taxis and county transit make it a convenient gateway for business travelers and visitors heading to the lakes-area resorts.
