About Bowman Field
Bowman Field is Louisville's dedicated general aviation airport, serving private, business, flight training, emergency medical and recreational aviation in the region. Established in 1919, it is Kentucky's first commercial airport and one of the longest continuously operating general aviation airfields in the United States.
Located about 5 miles (8 km) southeast of downtown Louisville in Jefferson County, the airport is close to Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby and central business districts. Its historic Art Deco Administration Building, completed in 1929, remains the landmark terminal and reflects the airport's long aviation heritage.
Commercial airline traffic moved to Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in 1947, and Bowman Field now functions primarily as a general aviation gateway. Fixed-base operators provide fueling, hangars, ground handling and passenger services for private and business aircraft.
